Durgadevi Temple

The Durga Devi Temple is the kuldevi of many Brahmin clans. The Durga Devi mandir is located at walking distance from the Vyadeshwar Mandir with a pond in the premises. Devicha Khamb is a pillar in the Durga Devi Temple erected to mark the location of the original temple at the time of reconstruction of the new temple.

About Durgadevi Temple

Durga Devi Temple is situated in Varcha Pat area of Guhagar City. A pillar has been raised in the name of the Goddess on the main road to realize that there is a temple on this path. There is a road to the temple on the right hand side of the pillar. In the vicinity of the temple is the Durgadevi Panchayat, in which Shri Ganapati, Shri Laxminarayan, Shri Krishneshwar and Pimpal tree are there. In this temple, Navaratri Festival is celebrated for nine days with great devotion every year.

 

Durgadevi temple is unbelievably intricate carvings, sea–faced, a pleasant and culturally important temple of Konkan. It is the “Kuldaivat” for many brahmin families. The calmness of the sea, and mesmerizing greens around with the sanctity of this place bring us utmost peace and relaxation. A lake is also found near the temple with a wooden pillar in the middle.

 

According to mythological stories, a pearl was fell off from the ornaments of Durgadevi during her fights with one of the demons. That pearl is said to be in the ornamental collection of Devi Durga and is exhibited in the main hall on special occasions. The temple is crowded with devotees in the Navaratri festival as the devotees come to seek the blessings of goddess Durga. It is a must-visit place for everyone planning a trip to Ratnagiri, Konkan
